Tom's retirement Luncheon

Tom had a great retirement luncheon. They did some bragging, teasing, and sharing of some stories. It was a great tribute to him and his 30 plus years that he has spent with GAO! How many more days left to work Tom?

SURPRISE!!

I thought I would surprise you all by posting something on here today. I found this picture on James' computer that he took almost a year ago. So far we haven't had any snow, but the weather forecast says that we might soon.

A POST FOR ALL OF US!

I have been going through our old church magazines, and cutting out the great pictures. I have taken the time to read some of the articles. And have a pile to mail Marisha. This one I am going to send to James, but thought we all could use this reminder in our lives. I was going to post this yesterday (Sat. morning) but we couldn't get the article to scan. Finally Tom got it to scan last night!
I honestly had planned to post this yesterday morning and was going to even type it out, but decided the scan would add some color to the blog.

How is your Latin?

Postmaster J. Albert Brown and staff have been busy the past few weeks with the Christmas rush, and have accomplished the job without a hitch. But the Post office personnel, Mr. Brown says, are glad the rush is over. Many cards, packages and special delivery items were handled during the rush.

Albert Brown Shoots Prowler Tuesday Night
Mephitis Americana, life-long resident of Apache county was shot and killed outside a St. Johns home Tuesday evening. No known relatives have been located.

J. Albert Brown, postmaster of St. Johns, is not one to take invasion of him home lightly, and is prepared to take great personal risk in keeping the place inviolate to all prowlers.

Last Monday night the family was enjoying a quiet evening at home when he heard a noise in the kitchen. Being a brave man, he went to investigate instead of sending his wife. The intruder slipped out without being seen.

Tuesday night the youngest member of the family, Brent, was reading in the front room when in walked Mephitis Americana.

Being only a small boy, he was afraid to move and after Mephitis had left the room he ran for help from his dad.

Albert quickly surrounded the area in which the culprit was in hiding and stepped to the side door with his trusty shotgun. He had his wife tap on a back window to frighten the prowler and when he ran out the side door he let go a shot. The intruder was mortally wounded although not defenseless and it took a second well placed shot to end his nocturnal degradations.

Mephitis Americana died without a statement, but his black and white fur coat was a total loss. If you aren't up on Latin, Mephities Americana is the the common skunk.

Do you know your ancestors?

I wanted to post this article, but the image isn't big enough for you to read it. I tried to re-do it but it still isn't big enough to read so I will type out the article for you soon.

OUT OF THE MOUTH OF BABES! (or 14 yr old)

I have been going through a bin of old paperwork and came across a letter handwritten to Dad and me. I thought you would all enjoy reading this. (I don't remember this letter--maybe Dad read it and kept it from me since that was during my bad depression years!)

Mom & Dad

I was disappointed today when I had thought about our Monday evening. No church meetings are schedules on Monday so that families can spend time together one evening of the week. It disturbs me to see that our home is a mess, yet we all walk over it and go about our things. Family Home Evening wasn't held until 9:30, and I as I looked around I saw that no one was fully paying attention. The lesson was made short, since it was late, we were all probably thinking about other things during the lesson. How are we supposed to feel the Spirit when the lesson is pretty much made up on the spot, we don't have an opening prayer, no one is paying attention, the room is a mess, and no one really seems like they want to be there? I don't want to hurt anyone, I just want this to be brought to your attention so that things can improve and your are aware that I would like things to be better. I know it isn't all up to you, it depends on everybody's attitude & etc, but please, let's all try from now on to get things planned better so that we can all have a funner and better experience.

Your daughter, Kristin

25 unique things about me

l. I was a teenage bride.
2. I was a teenage mother.
3. I did not have to get married--got married in the Arizona temple.
4. In H.S. I could beat almost everyone in leg wrestling--yes including guys!
5. If I had to choose between a homemade cookie or ice cream sundae, my choice would be cookie.
6. I was a Mat Maid in High School. (Cheerleader for wrestling)
7. I grew up in AZ and never travelled to Mexico.
8. I have been to Canada, Japan, and Korea
9. My favorite temple is the Washington DC temple.
10. In H.S. as a senior, I took a co-op class. (I worked in the afternoons and got paid. I worked for the school district in the media department, and checked in and mailed out films etc.)
11. Several times a week while working in HS. I would take a break with a co-worker and we would walk over to the 7-11 and I would buy peanut mm's and an orange crush. (Today I still crave peanut mm's if I am drinking an orange pop.)
12. I was the only child in my family that had braces. (I would probably be an old spinster if my parent's could not have paid for braces--truly a blessing)
13. My favorite horse to ride on cattle drives was "Amigo". He was a tall black old and very tame horse that was very easy to ride. We would be at the back of the drive trying to hurry the little calves along.
14. I have eaten beef heart several. It made very lean beef sandwiches--I would eat it again if given the chance and it was cooked right.
15. When I was pregnant with TC, I did crave dill pickles at the beginning--but wouldn't eat them for years after I tasted them going in and coming right back out!
16. Several times a month when I was pregnant with TC, Tom and I would visit Baskin and Robbins on Friday nights. I would get a banana split with, hot fudge, caramel, and strawberries. I would get mint chip, pralines and cream, and some kind of chocolate ice cream, nuts, whip cream and a cherry. (Wow could you imagine if I did that now!)
17. When Maren and I had to do the boys chores, I would beg to do the feeding of the farm animals while she milked the cow. I never could get the right rhythm going for milking.
18. My sisters and I shared one bedroom growing up. We had a small single bed for Irene, and two double beds.
19. I had a high metabolism growing up. I could put away the food. Dang what happened? Stupid thyroid!!!!
20. I had my first real kiss from a returned missionary when I was a senior in H.S. I didn't enjoy it!
21. One of my regrets is that I never took voice lessons.
22. One of my highlights is knowing all of my children sing well.
23. My physical fitness goal for this year is to lose 20 pounds.
24. My all time goal since I have been married it to be out of debt except for the house and car!!
25. I am looking forward to the possibility of going back to Hawaii with Tom and spending some vacation time with Marisha.
26 (I added one!) Hopefully in a few years we can all go as a family to one of the Worldmark Condos in Kauai and spend a vacation there. Save your money for your air fare--we will cover the lodging!!!

Ain't she a beauty!

This sketch was a Christmas gift from Marisha's friend, Cassandra. It took her only two hours to do. Right now I have it hung on the wall with the other Senior portraits. (I know I am a slacker and should have her canvas order, framed and hanging there!) If you look closely, you can see a little bit of reflection of Tom on the right side of the picture!) I thought you all would enjoy seeing this.
